Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor and journalist for NBC News based in Washington D.C. As a child living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started out as reporter for TV and radio working in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV situated in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was general correspondent for NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was made chief of the congressional correspondent in 1988. She became Chief White House reporter in 1992 and was also the Chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist and host on the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates in the 1988 debate between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell has a husband, Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work to defend First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at news from the White House first for NBC News between 1981-1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a broad range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-contra controversy and tax reform. She traveled with Ronald Reagan throughout his numerous trips for world summits and wrote often.
